10 Things to Know about Midco Sports Network

Well into our second season on the air, it's fair to say that Midco Sports Network, or MidcoSN, has become a way of life for me, as well as Kevin, Taryn, and everyone else who works hard every day to bring live, local sports coverage to northeast Kansas.

That said, I know we're still the new kids on the block, so to speak, and some people don't know much about us. So, here are the top 10 things you need to know about Midco Sports Network.

1. We're making history

Our station in Lawrence launched on November 6th, 2017 at 6:00 AM - becoming the first all-sports TV station broadcasting from the Sunflower State.

2. We've got roots

MidcoSN is anchored by long-time Lawrence-area sportscaster Kevin Romary, who has been serving Northeastern Kansas for over two decades after graduating from the University of Kansas.

This fall, we also welcomed Taryn Tempel to our broadcast team. Originally from Garden City, Taryn is also a KU grad and former Jayhawk track & field athlete.

The rest of the MidcoSN staff is just as ingrained in Kansas, with over 80% of our staff going to college at a state university in Kansas.

3. We love Kansas preps

Debuting in the fall of 2019, “Kansas Preps+” is the avenue for MidcoSN to tell the stories of athletes, teams, fans, and communities that rally around their area high schools.

4. We have your ‘Hawks covered.

Since August 2018, MidcoSN has been your area home of Jayhawk coverage, with yearly live events like “Late Night in the Phog,” to pregame and postgame coverage of KU football and men’s basketball, weekly live press conference, coach radio shows and even select rebroadcasts of all your favorite KU athletic programs.

5. We've got your local team

We're proud to cover Free State, Lawrence, Veritas Christian, Bishop Seabury, Eudora, Tonganoxie, Basehor-Linwood, and Piper high schools.

6. Glove, net, or ball, we cover it all

We don't just stick to the grdiron and hardwood arund here. Since September 2017, MidcoSN has been committed to live coverage of as many sports as we can, including volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, wrestling, swimming & diving, baseball, and softball - with hopes to add to that list soon!

7. It's not just about sports

Each of the past two school years, MidcoSN has partnerned with Dunco Heating & Cooling to award a $2,500 scholarship to a deserving student-athlete from our area schools. See our past winners below!

8. We're pretty excited about the holidays

9. This is the home of the champions

MidcoSN has been proud to deliver live coverage of champions in all levels:

  • 2019 KSHSAA 6A Basketball Championships – Washburn Rural Girls, Blue Valley Northwest Boys

  • 2019 KSHSAA 6A Softball Championships – Free State High School

  • 2019 KSHSAA 6A Football Championship – Derby High School
